first of all, I would never recommend using GUI on FreeBSD since it was designed as a high performance server. But if you insist, I'd like to suggest you to do it the old ways. (1) use xorgcfg to detect your device driver (at least for your video driver and mouse). (2) use sysinstall to install gnome and all your favorite apps

or you can just use pcbsd instead of freebsd

1. master system is connected to an internet connection? How can connect otherwise virutal box?
Where virutual master system must be detected hardware peripherals, if one does not know clonning system results in the same
2. When the system is installed virtualbox local repo (repo copy and configure), you will succeed installation that you want (www.spberlian.net)

Try to donload my pocket book on the files section... But im verry sorry its in indonesian, but i has pictures too... I make them in 3 series, CLI instalation, Desktop Instalation & webserver instalation... And you dont need an internet to do that ( 1 & 2 ). I hope that helps you...
